ACT One 2009: Improving Vermont's Sexual Abuse Response System

Up one level
The Agencies of Education and Human Services have worked closely and in partnership with community partners to develop resources for the implementation of Act 1 which went into effect July 1, 2011. Implementation of this legislation is important not only because it is in law, but it serves the best interest of Vermont students to help ensure their safety so that they can reach their full potential. You will find resources here to education adults and support comprehensive Health Education curriculum for students.
VT Technical Assistance Resource Guide (TARG)
The TARG provides guidance for schools’ to build their capacity for and knowledge of sexual violence prevention, state and local resources and nationally recognized “best practice” criteria for schools; as well as to help identify what sexual violence prevention curricula and activities will work best in their school community.
Act 1: Guidance for Community Prevention Practitioners
Act 1 provides Vermont prevention practitioners with the opportunity to work together to support understanding and implementation of comprehensive sexual violence prevention in school communities. The pieces of Act 1which pertain to schools cannot be fulfilled by any one single training or provider. We must work together. To support our collective efforts, the Sexual Violence Prevention Task Force (SVPTF) created the following guidance and recommendations for prevention practitioners providing Act 1 technical assistance and education. We recommend that you incorporate these recommendations in any sexual abuse/violence prevention education you provide in the context of Act 1 in schools, licensed child care facilities and youth serving organizations. Thank you for being part of Vermont’s effort to prevent child sexual abuse and sexual violence.
