March 30, 2022 | Vermont Maintains Record High Insured Rate
Nearly 97% of all Vermonters have health insurance, matching the state’s highest insured rate on record. According to the 2021 Vermont Household Health Insurance Survey released today, almost 600,000 Vermonters are covered. The data is consistent with studies from the U.S. Census Bureau which found that, in 2020, Vermont ranked second in the nation for its percentage of people with health insurance.

On Friday, March 13, 2020, Governor Phil Scott issued an executive order to declare a state of emergency in Vermont in response to COVID-19, commonly known as the new coronavirus. The executive order implements additional community mitigation strategies to prevent and control outbreaks of COVID-19 in order to protect those at the greatest risk, minimize the risk to the public, and maintain the health and safety of Vermonters. In order to limit the spread of infection in communities, the Governor’s executive order outlines several new actions, including restricting visitor access to hospitals and facilities that house and serve the elderly and very ill; prohibiting non-essential gatherings of more than 250 people in a single room or a single space; and prohibiting all non-essential out-of-state travel by state employees.
