Diagnostic issues surrounding the major mental disorders (i.e., mood disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, etc.) will be reviewed with an eye toward professional disagreements and confounding clinical information. Therapeutic issues will also be addressed, especially with regard to medications and strategies for coordinating/balancing medication management and psychotherapy. The format for the workshop will include lecture, film clips from popular movies and case discussions.

1.     Understand the role of medication in the treatment of mental disorders.

2.     Decide how best to coordinate psychotherapy and medication management.

3.     Differentiate between the major categories of mental disorders, especially the
complex overlaps involving mood disorders, personality disorders and ADHD.

4.    Make reasoned judgments about the effectiveness of medicine, side effects,
       and shortcomings of medicine.
