The all day training will cover areas such as: compelx psychological trauma, three paths to trauma recovery, treating acute versus chronic posttraumatic stress disturbance, and treating the effects of torture and other extraordinary traumatic events.

8:30-10:00:Complex psychological trauma: The impacts of sustained and early adverse
experience

10:00-10:30:Break

10:30-12:00: Three paths to trauma recovery: memory desensitization, affect
regulation skill development, and mindfulness training

12:00-1:00: Lunch-cost included with registration (Parking is not)

1:00-2:30: Treating acute versus chronic posttraumatic disturbance: Differences and similarities

2:30-3:00  Break

3:00-4:30: Treating the effects of torture and other extraordinary traumatic events.

Trainer: John Briere, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, Director of the Psychological Trauma Program at LAC-USC Medical Center, and Co-Director of the MCAVIC-USC Child and Adolescent Trauma Program, National Child Traumatic Stress Network.  He is a past president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), and recipient of the Robert S. Laufer Memorial Award for Scientific Achievement from ISTSS and the Outstanding Professional Award from the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC).  Designated as "Highly Cited Researcher" by the Institute for Scientific Information, he is author or co-author of over 70 articles, 20 chapters and encyclopedia entries, 10 books, and 8 psychological tests in the areas of trauma, child abuse, and interpersonal violence. His newest book (co-authored with Catherine Scott, MD) is Principles of Trauma Therapy, published by Sage Publications.
