This core training is required for all DCF FSD staff. It is a foundational training designed to provide the framework, philosophy, and preferred intervention and effective response to domestic violence within child protection and youth service cases.
Learning Objectives:
o To develop a greater understanding of domestic violence and its overlap with child abuse
o To understand the impact domestic violence has on children, its relationship to child abuse, and the DCF response to child witnessing
o To increase knowledge about dilemmas and strategies for an effective response to domestic violence/child abuse cases
o To understand why responding to domestic violence in child abuse/neglect cases is essential to child protection efforts and that effectively responding to adult domestic violence victims is a means to protect children
o To understand the basic principles of screening for domestic violence within child abuse/neglect and youth services cases
o To increase knowledge and skills in investigative and casework practice that enhance victim safety, provide for batterer accountability and increase youth and child safety
o To learn how to access and utilize consultation by the DCF Domestic Violence Unit
