This is a core training required of all DCF FSD Social Worker Trainees, Social Workers, and Supervisors within 18 months of hire.

Learning Objectives

· Reflect upon the impact of cultural and personal values on our decisions

· Understand the laws, policies and definitions which guide an investigation done by DCF

· Learn to identify the steps for a thorough investigation

· Identify and review the documentation needed to support the decisions we make

· Learn interviewing skills with children, adolescents and adults

· Review the elements of a comprehensive assessment and the tenants of a meaningful referral

From Burlington and Winooski: Take Rt. 2 & 7 through Winooski towards Colchester. Before Rt. 89, turn right at the light with Burger King and McDonalds on the right hand corners. Drive past Motel 6 and the Fairfield Inn. Turn right – look for signs for the UVM Continuing Education Computer Lab. Turn left into the parking lot. Proceed inside the building, turn right down the hall and the training room is midway down the hall on the left.
