This training is designed to orient and assist the professionals entering the role of Social Worker, Resource Coordinator, Supervisor or District Director within the first 6 months of hire. This seminar provides an overview of the knowledge, values and skills needed to:
- Understand the need for connections and permanency for adolescents
- Increase knowledge of how trauma, loss and multiple placements during the formative years in childhood affect relationships and self-awareness later in adolescence
- Learn practical tools in engaging youth and talking with them about permanency
- Increase skills in identifying and engaging connections from within a youth’s network of past and present relationships
- Use tools to develop a youth-driven and youth-specific plan of building stronger connections for and with youth
- Learn motivational interviewing skills for creating a productive atmosphere for working with youth and their parents on creating and reaching goals.
Directions: I-89 Exit 10, to Route 100 South to Waterbury, left at stop sign onto Route 2 East, right at second light at the North Entrance of the State Office Complex. Stanley Hall is the first large brick building on the left.
