This is a core training required of all DCF, FSD social workers. This competency based training includes information about the laws relating to VT child protection, youth justice, the structure and function of the state’s court system and key aspects of the legal process.

Learning Objectives:

ü Become familiar with current Vermont laws, including Chapter 49 and Chapter 55 of Title 33, and how to work with the courts to provide safety, well being, and permanence for children & youth.

ü Understand the court process and your role in documenting pertinent evidence, preparing a case for filing and meeting a standard of proof.

ü Know of appropriate options for disposition of juveniles.

The Colchester Business Park in located off Rt. 2 & Rt. 7 in Colchester.

From Burlington and Winooski: Take Rt. 2 & 7 through Winooski towards Colchester. Before Rt. 89, turn right at the light with Burger King and McDonalds on the right hand corners. Drive past Motel 6 and the Fairfield Inn. Turn right – look for signs for the UVM Continuing Education Computer Lab. Turn left into the parking lot. Proceed inside the building, turn right down the hall and the training room is midway down the hall on the left.
