Office of the Secretary
The Agency of Human Services was created by the Vermont Legislature in 1969 to serve as the umbrella organization for all human service activities within state government. The Agency is led by the Secretary, who is appointed by the Governor, and the Deputy Secretary who is appointed by the Secretary with the Governor’s approval. The Secretary’s Office is responsible for strategically leading the agency and its departments and establishing and implementing agency-wide policies and practices that cross departmental boundaries.
